BEST of 2024 So Far (After Week 6)

Fantasy Football prognosticators attempt to predict who the top players will be at each position every season. If you have been paying attention to me here on The Science of Fantasy Football, you know that year-end points can be deceiving, and points per game are also misleading. But what matters most in Best Ball Fantasy Football is how many times a player hits our score sheet. That’s what the BEST Index attempts to do. Let’s look at the best of the BEST after week five.

BEST Index Explained

Fantasy Football is a weekly game that needs weekly statistical tools. The MVP Index grades players on the three things that can happen every week: whether a player helped you win, caused you to lose, or kept you in the matchup that week. It uses historical median production to determine values that need to be exceeded to count. Since we don’t care about the lousy Best Ball Fantasy Football scores, the BEST index uses two of the three parts of the MVP Index to show BEST Ball effectiveness for each player.

Conclusion

If anyone had Baker Mayfield rated as QB1 in Fantasy Football this year, they deserve to be anointed the King or Queen of Fantasy Football forever. Joe Burrow being ranked QB2 makes more sense, and with the Bengal's defense showing some big holes, he should be able to win the top spot over the entire season. Rookie Jayden Daniels has also been among the top 2 values at the position versus ADP. Alvin Kamara and Derrick Henry are back on top, as expected by those who understand the best of the older RBs can survive. Despite a horrible start to the season, D’Andre Swift is solidly in the top 10 after six weeks.

The Professor expected Chris Godwin and I to have a much better season than his ADP, but we are pleasantly surprised by him being WR1. Justin Jefferson is off to a great start with a new quarterback, and rookie Malik Nabers has been the best rookie so far. The TEs chosen in the early rounds have all been a colossal disappointment. George Kittle and Brock Bowers have been the best with super-value picks. Cole Kmet is the only TE hitting a BEST index of 4 or better. Good luck in week seven.
